August:
Time to rejuvenate Co-operative Societies:
Annual General Meetings marks the weekend:
The August month comes up with an all new enthusiasm and charisma for Co-operative
Organisations in the region. Most of the CO-operative Organisations have their
Annual General Meetings to present whole year's achievements and accountability.
The Jalgaon District considered as one of mega hub of co-operative movement
has more than 600 co-operative societies with thousands of Crores of funds being
channelled through them.
The region has witnessed many shocks on the co-operative front this year especially
with reference to distribution of loans and its recovery thereof. The "Non-Performing
Assets (NPA)" criteria seem to have taken away breaths of managers of these
organisations with demands of more of transparency in accounting systems. Railing
behind a decade or two decades recalls us of times when there were no other
than Nationalised banks available to fund and avail resources conceived the
Co-operative movement foundation. The edge has changed and liberalised significantly
with easy availability of funds from almost every channel may it be Nationalised
Banks, Other Financial Institutions, Private National Level Banks and other
sources, but the Co-operative movement did not changed its selling pattern thereby
crunching its business revenue model. The biggest ground level player and active
holding of common men co-operative movement has trapped itself into leadership
and financial management chaos. If the same level of vandalism continues to
its image, next decade would see wipe away of this movement.
Customer focussed approach, friendly services, Inter-connected Network resources,
Inter-Bank/ Organisation Automated teller machines, eagerness to offer the best
and inventing newer services for benefiting common man remains just dreams than
getting cashed. The co-operative movement still has a chunk of revenues from
Draft Commission, Loans Disbursements, Loan applications processing fees and
remains in attraction for higher (around 2-3%) interest rates to fixed deposits
and ease in timings for services. The Organisations need to study changing business
pattern and competitiveness being seen in Banking Industry and come up with
an all new approach to avail best of business practices and enact as a backbone
to society for overall societal benefit.
Khandesh's lifeline Tapi River flooding history:
The historically important Tapi River has witnessed many flooding since its
inception and the Khandesh region has a special tradition of offering "Saree-Choli"
to Tapi River considered as Mother of region to ease its spread and panic.
Khandesh's Ahirani language has dictated a special term "Rail" to
term excessive flooding in Tapi River. This term is used whenever the River
takes away farms, houses and villages in its monstrous flooding.
The Tapi River flows from East to West and is considered as calm and non-directed
River. Khandesh's almost all villages offers "Saree-Choli" to this
River in event of "Rail" along with worshipping using copper Diyas
and traditions. The River witnessed a total of 33 flooding since 1927 as per
available records. This includes flooding in 1944 followed by 1959, 1968, and
1970 with 1968 flooding considered as one of worst affecting. This flooding
has recalled region of aliveness of the River and memories of past. The Tradition
includes participation of whole village and offerings from Village Heads praying
her to reduce levels to save from destruction. The Prakasha village in region
has flag hoisting to urge this Motherly River to settle down and has ancient
times Lord Shiva Temple that never drowns down even in "Rail" conditions.
The historic records have marked Tapi, Narmada, Chandrabhaga, Bhima, Godavari,
Kashi, and Panjhra as 7 sisters with ocean as their brother meeting first time
to sisters in Bharuch of Gujarat state.
