NMU Convocation ceremony today:
The Khandesh region's Educational Hub North Maharashtra University Jalgaon's 13th
Convocation Ceremony is on today 31st January. For this year, the Convocation
offers a record 10,022 number of Degrees to various students from 9 different
streams passing in last academic year. The event marks presence of Central Agricultural
Minister Shri Sharad Pawar and State Technical Education Minister Sureshdada Jain.
The NMU is also inaugurating its School of Life Science Building and Examination
Building on this eve.
MSEB nightmare:
Announces substitution of nighttimes Load Shedding:
The State owned Maharashtra
State Electricity board has announce substitution of its Power cut schedule in
night time by any other suitable vacant time. The announcement came up after stiff
protest from all sectors of society considering upcoming SSC and HSC Examinations.
The whole of region continues to witness massive power outages since last
3 months making life much harder. The District with once pride of having Bhusawal
Thermal Power Station (BTPS) is suffering one of its worst states of electricity
resources. Days are not far away when we are equivalent to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh,
and Madhya Pradesh where electricity crunched many businesses based of power.

Jalgaon District witness
Snowfall and Raining:
The last week continued to be a dramatic changing
climate with many of region's interior places witnessing snowfall for around 5-10
minutes. The Dharangaon, Chopda, Parola, MuktaiNagar, Savda, and Faijpur Taluka's
many places witnessed snowfall while Yaval, Jalgaon, Amalner, Erandol, and Jamner
taluka witnessed showery to medium raining during 6pm to 7.30pm period on Saturday
evening.
The continuous raining and cloudy atmosphere has noticeably dipped
mercury scale touching back to 10 degree centigrade level with freezing winds
all the time.

spur winter:
The whole of Khandesh region continued to witness dynamic
weather changes on Friday evening and later in Saturday morning. The region witnessed
raining today morning spreading chill all around. Weather is cloudy still now
and more of raining is expected.
The continued showery raining has damaged
Cotton procured by State Authority CCI leading to stop buying in eight cotton
centres. There are huge lines of Cotton Farmers waiting outside centres to give
their Cotton crop. The region marked 1mm raining on Thursday night continued by
showering later on today morning.
Yaval
School students win Gold and Bronze Medals in National Boxing Competition:
Yaval's Sane Guruji Secondary and Higher Secondary School students Rajesh Narayan
Sonawane has won Gold Medal in 45kg Group National Boxing Competition conducted
at Dehradun in Uttaranchal State from 15th January until 19th January 2005. Along
with Rajesh, School's Devendra Sunil Dharvadhve won Bronze in 54kg Group.

2005' Paper Presentation in KCE Engineering College:
The KCE Society's
College of Engineering and Information Technology Jalgaon is hosting Paper presentation
competition on 15th February 2005 on Computer Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication,

Five more Less Privileged Children admitted:
The Jalgaon Civil Hospital has admitted five less privileged children from Satrasen
village of Chopda taluka. With their admitting in hospitals, the region once again
witnesses mal-nutrition death and less privilege to children. Of five admitted,
4 are equal or less than 2 years age while one is 11 years old. All are under
treatment in Civil Hospital.
Raining
spurs environment:
The whole of Khandesh region witnessed rain showers
in Thursday late night repeated back in Friday early morning spreading cloudy
and frosty airwaves. The raining disrupted Electricity for hours in Friday early
morning.

gets new Head:
The Jalgaon City Municipal
Corporation is getting a new Head. Akola Corporation Head G. H. Ghate will be
new JCMC Administrator from 27th January shifting his ancestor Sanjay Kakde to
Akola. Mr. Ghate earlier worked as Jalgaon Municipal Council Chief Officer for
period from September 1990 until July 1991.

announces Teacher Awards: Includes 7 from Khandesh:
The Maharashtra State
Government is honouring 96 teachers from various Universities, Colleges, Technical
Education, School Education, and Arts throughout the State. It includes 7 teachers
from Khandesh namely Dr. Shamkant Laxman Patil (Reader - UDCT - NMU), Raghunath

citizens to following a caution note. Please do not keep valuables including jewellery
at home instead use Bank lockers to keep your valuables especially when you are

and do not allow entry of sundry salesperson promoting some products. Keep your

Weather diverge
unease environment:
The Jalgaon region is witnessing weather vicissitudes
making it uneasy for normal life. The region once again on Sunday evening witnessing
frosty waves that continued throughout the night repeating cold wave.
Earlier
the region witnessed historic low of 5.9 degrees centigrade on 19th January followed
by increase in temperature up to 16 degrees on Saturday causing a mixed effect.
Jalgaon's NCC cadets honoured
for their Services to Tsunami victims:
Jalgaon three NCC cadets went in
Camp in Tamilnadu supported the Tsunami relief work in State by distributing Food
packets, arranging drinking water, and supplying life necessities.
The MJ

Mega Events beginning today:
The whole of Jalgaon city is ready to host
State Level two mega events beginning today. These include Maharashtra State Non-Government
College Principal Forum Conference and secondly Plastic Surgeons State Convention.
Both events are State Level and have participation from top brass of respective
fields.
The Two Days Silver Jubilee Convention of Principals Forum includes
four technical sessions and discussions on various topics. The Plastic Surgeons
third biannual convention includes participation of surgeons from all around India
and two international surgeons as well.

The Jalgaon District has 301377 RTO registered
vehicles as on 01st January 2005. This includes 21760 registrations during the
calendar year 2004. The Divisional Road Transport Office Jalgaon collected revenue
of Rs. 16.47 Crores during last 9 months in current financial year.

State Level Conference of Plastic

District Business Community withdraws their indefinite strike:
The District
Business associations are withdrawing their previously announced indefinite strike
following centre's decision to rollback Service Tax applicability on Businesses
with Partnership and Proprietorship concerns. The business associations' federation
earlier announced indefinite strike from 21st January to protest this issue.
JCMC begins its mega Anti-Encroachment
Drive:
The Jalgaon City Municipal Corporation began its mega Anti-encroachment
drive in Jalgaon last day. The Authorities cracked down Navi Peth, Bendale Chowk,
and Sindhi Colony based encroachments. All encroachment was in form of Extra Built
up Construction, illegal use of corporation's space, non-following of standard
construction norms etc.
The drive begun earlier by former JCMC administrator
once again has the pace with new administration head in full pace to remove them.
NMU Convocation on 31st January:
The Northern region Education hub North Maharashtra University's 13th Convocation
ceremony is on 31st January 2005 with 10,054 students to take their degrees. The
Univeristy is honouring 31 students with Gold Medals for their Outstanding Educational
Track record.
19th January:
Region witness historic Low Temperature:
The winter chill effect is back with Jalgaon's mercury scale falling to historic
low of 5.9 degree centigrade on Tuesday. The Khandesh zone comprising of Jalgaon,
Dhule, and Nandurbar Districts has witnessed decrease in temperature with scale
falling to around 10 degrees in last week itself.

Centre announces VAT
White Paper:
The Central Government Finance Ministry has announced its
VAT White paper. As per the new policy for VAT implementation, there are three
categories of taxes i.e. 4%, 8%, and 12.5% applicable on 550 different commodities
and items. The Value Added Tax cancels Local Sales Tax and Central Sales Tax in
stepwise manner in upcoming financial year. The new VAT policy allows no taxing
on firms having turnover below five lacs and has extended tax audit limit from
40 lacs to 50 lacs.
This VAT Tax is applicable from 01st April 2005 and is
a beginning of a new Era in Tax uniformity throughout the Country. The Genuine
Business operators get a winning edge in this taxation policy as it has strict
implementation and no loopholes that could be invaded by businesses operating
in without bill (popularly known as 'Do Number Business' in Hindi). Key factors
that could decide the success of this policy is its systematic application to
businesses.
Centre rolls back
Service Tax on Transporters payable by Businesses:
The Central Finance
ministry has rolled back its decision that had compulsion on Partnership firms
to register with Excise Department for paying Service Tax of 10.2% on 25% of Transportation
cost paid to transporters. With this reversion, the service tax policy now has
no liability on Business in form of proprietorship and Partnership concerns. However,
as Industry sector is already having registration with Excise Department aught
to pay this says policy announcement.
The Business community earlier announced
its indefinite strike with effect from 21st January to protest this issue. The
FAM is yet to announce its decision on this move.

Tourist looted at Faijpur:
A Sumo Car Driver at Tapi River Bridge in Faijpur
looted an American Tourist from New York. The youth had begun his journey to Bhusawal
from Itarsi by hiring a Sumo Car. The Driver lied that Car has stopped due to
some internal fault asked him to get down and as he got down, the driver flew
away taking passengers all luggage.
The tourist registered his complaint
with Bhusawal Bazar Peth Police Station, which was later transferred to Faijpur
Station. A Police team has moved to Itarsi to investigate further about this Car
whereabouts.

The State Technical Education
Authority Directorate of Technical Education has announced its Schedule for Admission
Process for year 2005-06. The MAH-MCA-CET-2005 has minimum percentage criteria
of 45% in Graduation (40% for Reservation) and has Online Admission Form Process
as that of last year and Entrance Information Brochure is available at a cost
of Rs. 750/- (Rs. 550/- for Reserved Category) from 19th January until 04th February

stiffen their Anti-Service Tax move:
The Business associations throughout
the Country have stiffened their Anti-Service Tax move and are going on indefinite
strike from 21st January 2005. The Federation of Associations of Maharashtra in
its meeting held on 11th January has called for indefinite business strike throughout
Maharashtra from 21st January 2005.
The Association further urges Government
to roll back their Transporters Service Tax Payment by Businessman order at earliest.

Productivity in Jalgaon:
The Jalgaon city is hosting a day long National
Level Workshop on Sugarcane Productivity on 17th January. The Event includes participation

Fire near Ajanta
Crossing on MIDC Road:
The Salar Nagar area near MIDC Ajanta Crossing
witnessed fire in Plastic Bags factory and repair workshop resulting in severe
damages to around 10 shops nearby. The incidence took place on Saturday night
around 10.30pm and it took around 1.5 hours to control the fire. One Policeman
was injured while attempting to rescue from fire.

Cottonmics 2005:
The Cotton Corporation of India and State's other allied units and businesspersons
have procured around 15 lacs quintals of cotton crop until now in this year. The
Authorities are expecting additional 10 lacs quintal cotton buying from Districts
of Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar in coming days. There are 18 Agricultural Produces
Committees, 23 Cotton buying, and Selling Centres in these districts.
The
Khandesh region with its rich agricultural soil is amongst top banana, Chilli,
and cotton producing belt and around 60% of population depends on agricultural

State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has announced examination
schedule for upcoming SSC and HSC Examinations 2005. HSC Exam begins 01st March

The JCMC
General Meeting ended peacefully on Tuesday after earlier suspension. The body

for Road repairs and development, 22 Crores for Salary of its employees, 25 Crores
for Loan repayment. Jalgaon City Municipal Corporation has a debt of around 200

Non-Agricultural
Universities Vice-Chancellor Meeting in NMU:
The Maharashtra State Non
Agricultural Universities related to Higher and Technical Education met in NMU
on Friday with State Technical Education Minister in Chair. The Meeting unanimously
resolved to allow autonomy to around 100 to 150 Colleges throughout the State.
The 8 points agenda meeting also resolved to make changes in Maharashtra Universities
Regulation 1994 with one committee already setup under Mumbai University VC submitting
its View in two months time.
The Kolhapur University announced aid of Rs.
2.5 lacs, NMU Jalgaon announced 1.49 lacs, Yashwantrao Chavan Open University
Nashik announced 73,000 aids to Chief Ministers Tsunami hit relief fund along
with 20% of surplus aid collected from students in last year for Gujarat Earthquake.
State Cotton Buying:
Considering
hefty quantity of Cotton crop arriving and no places for stocking the Cotton federation
has stopped buying cotton at 13 centres in Nashik Division that includes Yaval,
Pasardi, Kanalda, Fattepur, Chalisgaon, Goradkheda Jamner, Nandurbar, MuktaiNagar,
Pimpalkotha, Varkheda Pachora, Yeola, Neri, and Mahsavad with effect from 06th
January 2005.

Cellular Services to become cheaper:Are we heading towards right direction?
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India in its recent announcement, announced
reduction of Access deficit charges levied by Operators to settle their internal
call routing system. With this, all operators will now have to pay much lesser
for their customers calling other operators network resulting in lowering of tariff
to end user customers.
With increasing cell phone density, are we heading
towards the right direction? This issue need elaborate discussion on side effects
of this technology. If we study developed nations and their policies for telecom
promotion, we find India is promoting cellular and mobile phone technologies more
instead of promoting basic telephony.
This diversion is resulting in no phone
communication at one and many phones at another place scenario. Today's need and
growth demands telephone availability at each place to boost communication and
business.
Service Tax chaos:
The newly amended order enforces Businessman to collect Service Tax paid by them
to Transporters and deposit it in Bank. The business community also need to take
Service Tax Registration Certificate for this Service Tax payment making their
feel confused about basic concept of Service Tax. The Service Tax levied and deposited
by the Service Provider is now on Service beneficiaries.
The Business community
throughout the Country has strongly opposed this order and have decided not to
call any goods until the Government roll back this decision. The Business community
already in chaos with Value Added Tax (VAT) coming up from 01st April is facing
hard time with another tax and Governments' toughest department handling the tax.

Khandesh's six scholar Researchers gets recognition:
National
Innovation Foundation (NIF), an autonomous organisation set up by Department of
Science and Technology, Government of India is honouring National Level scholars
and researchers working in the field of Science, Technology, Biotechnology, and
various other fields.
In a function recently held at IIM Ahemdabad, his Excellency
President of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam honoured various Researchers that
include six researchers and scholars from Khandesh region namely Ramdas Madhav
Jagtap, Subhash Jagtap, Sarfoddin Kazi, Vijay Ghodke, Kalpita Patil, and Gopal
Patil.
These scholars worked and innovated various experiments like unit
for drying grapes, Spray Pump on bicycle, Stove without Pump, Small unit to improve
performance of Lethe Machine, Shock absorber using Magnetic effect, and Old age
supporting stick using electricity. These six includes three from Jalgaon District
while rest 3 from other parts.
District
administration starts Passport form acceptance in Jalgaon:
The Jalgaon
District Administration has started Passport forms acceptance centre in District
Police Superintendent Office Jalgaon from Monday to Friday in 10.30AM to 13.30PM
timing.

Republic Day Parade:
The State NCC Unit has selected RR School Jalgaon
student Devendra Umesh Tade in State Battalion for National Republic day Parade
at New Delhi.

Private Bus fells in River near Malkapur:
A Private Bus leading
to Surat from Amravati fell in Nalganga river basin near Malkapur District: Buldhana
resulting in death of 17 and serious injuries to 32 passengers. The incidence
took place on Monday midnight when bus crossed Nandura and was about to reach
Tandalwadi of Malkapur. The bus crashed in river basin when the driver attempted
overtaking a vehicle crossing the bridge resulting in imbalance. The bridge is
around 70-80 feet high yielding in heavy strike of bus on hard base of river basin.
All injured are admitted in nearby Khamgaon, Bhusawal city and are in critical
condition.
Maharashtra Softball
Team wins National Competition:
Maharashtra girls Softball Team captained
by Jalgaon's Madhuvanti Pargaonkar and Amruta Pathak as player in team has won
National Softball Competition recently held at Chandigarh. The team defeated last
winner Punjab girls team by 0-6 homerun in final match.
Goodbye winter
Chill:
Jalgaon region famous for summer is gearing up for another summer.
The winter's chilling effect is ending since last week and mercury scale is rising
up sharply with weather change of around 5-8 degrees. The region touched lowest
of 8 degree centigrade until now in this winter is now having lower temperature
of 15.8 degrees.

Hatnur dam scale records five Earthquakes: Jalgaon District safe:
Jalgaon District's Hatnur dam having its setup for detecting quakes recorded
five earthquakes on 02nd January and 03rd January 2005. However, the centre could
not identify the exact location of quake. All quakes were at location outside
Jalgaon District.
First Quake recorded on 02nd January afternoon 01.55.44PM
followed by second on 15.50.23PM, third on 21.10.47pm, fourth on 00.02.39am of
03rd January, and last one on 02.39.02am.
The authorities have sent all recorded
graphs to Nashik for further analysis, measuring exact scale and finding location
of it.
JCMC General meeting today:
The Jalgaon City Municipal Corporation is having its General Meeting today. The
meeting highlights hiking of Rents for providing JCMC owned Gardens, Open Spaces
for social functions.
Asoda Villagers
continue their protest:
Demanding for immediate repairing of roads to
Asoda, improving drinking water supply facilities in the village, the villagers
of Asoda from Jalgaon Taluka continued their hunger protest on 08th Consecutive
day in front of JCMC administrative building.

Bhadgaon's Sumantai Patil gets Savitribai Fule Award:
Maharashtra
State Government has honoured Bhadgaon's Sumantai Patil with Savitribai Fule Award
2004-05 for her outstanding services in spreading Social harmony, Women Education,
Educating lower section of society in Nashik Division category.
The Award
comprising of Rs. 25,000/- cash prize privileged on eve of Savitribai Fule Jayanti
on 10th March every year honours six outstanding social serving women from all
six Revenue divisions in Maharashtra State.
Raining
in Jalgaon:
After two days of chilling winds, the whole of Jalgaon region
witnessed rain showers for around 5-10 minutes on Sunday evening around 8pm. The
showering effect spread chill in weather on night.

Caves Festivity:
The Ajanta Ellora Friends Association is hosting its
annual Ajanta Caves Festivity 2005 on 15th January 2005. The Festivity comprises
of Ajanta caves excursion arrangements for tourist from Jalgaon, Caves related

Business Community goes on Strike from 05th January protesting
Service Tax on Transport:
The Jalgaon District Business Community is going
on Strike with effect from 05th January to protest Centre's newly announced Service
Tax on Transport operators with effect from 01st January 2005. All Transporters
need to charge Service Tax on their Freight rates fixed.
The Business community
is afraid of rates hike if Service Tax is imposed on necessity service like Transportation.

an Essay Competition on "Increasing Vehicle density & driver's stylishness

The Income Tax Department Investigation Department
in its Press note issued on 31st December has announced hefty recovery of hidden
and undisclosed Assets worth Rs. 2.45 Crores making parties declare Income of
Rs. 3.29 Crores in September 2004, while it seized Rs. 45 lacs assets and made
parties declare Income worth Rs. 2.02 lacs in the month of November 2004.
The Jalgaon Income Tax Department is one of highest earning branch for Government
following its high Per Capita Income.
