Election 2003

22nd September:
NCP leads JCMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor Posts:
The Nationalist Congress party lead candidates have won both Mayor and Deputy Mayor Posts in the JCMC's first ever election. The NCP supported independent candidate Mrs. Asha Dilip Kolhe (Age: 34 approx, Education: SSC, Native: Nashirabad) has become Jalgaon first elected Lady Mayor. Another candidate from NCP, Mr. Karim Salar (Age 50, Education: BA) has won the Deputy Mayor post in the voting of 69 elected members of JCMC.
With this election, the JCMC's first election process has come to end and both Mayor and Deputy Mayor will take their office charge from today.

21st September:
JCMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor Selection today:
The most awaited polling for the post of city's first lady mayor and deputy mayor is on 11am onwards at JCMC conference hall. Meanwhile eight corporators have applied for the post of mayor whiles fourteen for the post of Deputy Mayor of city. The NCP holds 34 seats while BJP and Shivsena alliance holds 32 seats and independent candidates' holds three. The final announcement will be by today afternoon only. The whole epic depends on three independents and their criterion for support to any of two rival majority holding parties.
Jalgaon City's 138 years old establishment, the City administration, is getting an all-new leader today.


19th September:
Jalgaon city Mayor Selection on 21st September:
The City's first Ladies reserved Mayor Selection is on Sunday, 21st September 2003. The JCMC administrator in an official voting process will declare city's first Mayor in JCMC's conference Hall.
On Election front, Police booked one of the loosing candidates who severely injured three people in city's low-line area. All three are under treatment at ICU in Civil Hospital.

18th September:
JCMC Elections 2003:
The majority leader Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in alliance with one independent candidate has formed its majority for holding the prestigious first lady "Mayor" post. The party is soon claiming its majority in the house. On other side the second largest party BJP and Shivsena, alliance is also gearing up its preparations to form an alliance with the help of independent candidates. The Exact Political turmoil shall be clear within upcoming three to four days. Meanwhile both majority owners have sent their candidates on a vacation to avoid possible crossover.
On another front, the criminal background candidates continued their panic throughout city with fighting amongst two groups in Valmik Nagar area. The terror news caused immediate shutdown of major market areas in city in the evening time and served dominance of criminal profiles in deciding political scenario. The most stressed Police has booked seven in this connection and continued its parade throughout the city to maintain the Law and Order Situation.

17th September:
JCMC Elections 2003: A Wave of change:
The JCMC Election 2003 has reflected a wave of change amongst common public of Jalgaon. Out of 69 seats, the Nationalist Congress Party has won 34, while the BJP won twenty-seven, Shivsena won five, Metropolitan Development unit won one, and the independent won two. This final seat position is leading the JCMC Election 2003 to 'No Clear Majority' giving utmost importance to Independent Candidates role.
The JCMC poll counting begun on Tuesday morning witnessed many vicissitudes throughout the day with BJP and Shivsena alliance finding clear majority at one stage. The declaration of "Mayor" post candidate reserved for Ladies will soon come out and is going to be the significant factor to decide the race leader.
The key notable factor for the Election 2003 was defeat of many established ward members by entry-level members that too with good margins. The established working ward members of whatever party they belonged to, found no difficulties in winning the race. Another important factor was panic among common person regarding the results. Most of the areas witnessed undeclared market closed following chances of rivalry following election results.

16th September:
JCMC Elections 2003: Poll counting today:
The JCMC's first polling results are no more away. By today evening, all the results for 68 seats will be available. The poll counting process has begun at 8am with results in six stages comprising of three to four wards each stage.
The Polling completed marked killing of one supporter by another rival group in a ward on polling issue. The killing spread panic amongst people in city and some areas marked undeclared curfew throughout the day. The Police have arrested seven people including a corporator in this connection.
The first ever Lady Mayor of the city shall need at least 35 members support. The mayor selection process beginning with results, expected to complete within one week. The DM has implied section 37(1) and 37(3) of Bombay Police Act, 1951 in order to control Law and Order situation in the District.


15th September:
Jalgaon City Municipal Corporation election marks fabulous response:
The first ever held JCMC elections 2003 have yielded fabulous response with 64.58% voting percentile on 14th September 2003. There were in all 68 candidates trying their destiny for the election at 304 polling centres. The Mehrun area witnessed stone pelting between two rival groups causing injury to seven people including a Policeman. However, the police took control of the entire Mehrun area immediately and reinstated the polling process. The Police have booked 50 people including a corporator in this connection.
Of 214,683 eligible voters, 139,294 voters polled that includes 74,368 male and 65026 female voters. The Ward# five witnessed maximum polling percentile of 79.6% while ward# seven marked lowest voting of 51.20%. The following figures shows ward wise poll statistics.

The Poll counting process begins tomorrow morning at 8am and result shall be available by tomorrow night. The election reminded of older elections where most of the candidates provided free transportation to voters to reach polling centres.

14th September:
JCMC election begins:
The Jalgaon City Municipal Corporation (JCMC)'s first ever election has begun at 07.30am today. There are in all 23 wards with 69 seats i.e. each ward with three seats namely A, B, and C parts of that ward. Of 69, one candidate is already elected unopposed and therefore there are 68 seats for this JCMC Election.
Every voter has to vote on three different ballot papers for each of A, B, and C Part. There are in all 247 candidates in this election trying their fate for 68 seats.
Polling is democracy's ultimate selection weapon and therefore we request every eligible Voter to poll today to make useful contribution towards formation of our tomorrow.

13th September:
JCMC Elections 2003:
With just 48 hours, left the campaigning for first municipal corporation election has stopped last evening. All major political parties, independent candidates have applied best of their efforts to secure maximum voting throughout their region. For the first time in Jalgaon election history, political parties used Telephonic marketing to promote their area wise candidates. This time there are 57 candidates having criminal background and have given declaration of the same while filling nomination forms.
The administration has arranged tight security arrangements for the Polling scheduled on 14th September 2003, Sunday. There are in all 340 polling centres with 1360 workers appointed and 1200 Policeman for security arrangements. The JCMC administrator has urged people of Jalgaon to caste their vote without any hesitation and freely and has requested to bring Voter's identity card while polling. The Poll counting schedule begins on Tuesday morning and result by evening.


12th September:
JCMC Elections 2003:
With just 48 hours for poll beginning, the JCMC Election campaigning is ending today evening. All parties and candidates have tightened their belts to get the best results.
